Wedding Invitation & Stationery Timeline
10-12 months before the wedding date:
- Begin your Save the Date card search if you are planning a destination wedding or if you will have multiple out-of-town guests.
- Select personal stationery that you can use to send thank you notes for shower gifts and other gifts received before the wedding.
6-8 months before the wedding date:
- Mail your Save the Date cards.
- Begin your wedding invitation search. Start to narrow down your favorite styles, paper colors and ink colors. Remember, your wedding invitation will set the tone for your wedding.
4-6 months before the wedding date:
- Order your wedding invitations.
- Start working on wording for your wedding ceremony program and if applicable, menu cards.
- Determine who will address your wedding invitations. If you decide to have invitations addressed by a calligrapher, schedule the calligrapher now.
3-5 months before the wedding date:
- Send your wedding invitation envelopes to your calligrapher or start addressing the envelopes yourself.
- Assemble your invitations.
- Take a fully assembled wedding invitation to the post office to determine postage requirements.
- Select rehearsal dinner invitations (traditionally hosted by the groom’s family).
2 months before the wedding date:
- Mail your wedding invitations.
- Order your wedding ceremony programs, menu cards, escort cards and any other stationery needed for your ceremony and reception.
- Order your personal stationery for notes that will be sent out after the wedding.
1 month before the wedding date:
- Send out rehearsal dinner invitations.
